Stock Screening Technology

The following characteristics set the Turning Point Screener apart from others:

Advanced screening techniques that effectively weed-out undesired results that are common to most screeners

Output is not simply a list of stocks, but detailed information used to rank the output, allowing quick and effective analysis

Some screens have been fine-tuned to limit output to setups that, based upon our research, statistically outperform the basic pattern

Output is cross-referenced, providing the screens that a stock qualifies, not just the stocks that pass a given screen

Included are well known, complex patterns not found in most, if in any other screeners

Also included are some unique patterns

In addition to screening, price change information is included, providing a powerful view of the overall trading day

The Turning Point Screener operates in MS Excel, but operational knowledge of Excel is not required.

The Turning Point Screener combines the simplicity of a predefined screener with the powerful results of a sophisticated programmable screener, while at the same time attempting to eliminate the disadvantages associated with most predefined screeners.  While the number of screens certainly won't leave the trader without ideas for the following day, its limited output means that it is easy to "digest" on a daily basis.

The first thing that stands out about the Turning Point Screener is the screened criteria.  Included are some popular patterns and some that are less well-known, and some that are unique to this screener.  Some patterns are highly complex while others are relatively simply.  But regardless, all of the screens have been elaborately designed to minimize undesired output and to result in a manageable amount of data.  As this minimizes wasted time associated with charting undesired results, it makes it possible for the trader to evaluate a majority of the results on a daily basis.  This allows consistency and promotes the benefits of experience as the trader becomes more in-tuned with what works and what does not work in a given trading environment or set of market conditions.

Also unique to the Turning Point Screener is the presentation and content of the output.  While most screeners simply indicate if a stock passed the screening test, the Turning Point Screener commonly quantifies the results, allowing the trader to sort the output in very meaningful ways.  For example, a typical screen for volume that more than doubled the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) of volume would result in a list of stocks.  The Turning Point Screener provides not only the same stock list, but adds to this by displaying by how much the volume exceeded the 50-day SMA, and then allowing the trader to sort this list by volume multiple of the SMA.

Additionally, the Turning Point Screener may be the only screener available that goes beyond just providing the stocks that pass a screen, but also provides the ability to see what screens a particular stock passes.  This allows the user to instantly know what other screens a particular stock qualified, often providing valuable information to assist with trading decisions.

In addition to its screening features, the Turning Point Screener includes price change information for every stock in its universe.  This allows the trader to quickly identify the stocks that made the biggest moves up or down.  By simultaneously combining this with the stocks that experienced the heaviest relative volume, presented is a clear picture of where the big money was flowing during the trading day.  This feature has the added affect of providing a snapshot of the market-day by visually presenting the number of stocks making big moves or the ones moving on heavy volume.

Ultimately, the Turning Point Screener provides a limited number of high-quality screens of desirable patterns that can be quickly navigated and analyzed, minimizing the time spent after-hours preparing for the next trading day.
