Stock Screening Technology

The Turning Point Screener is a subscription-based (distributed via e-mail), daily, pre-defined stock screener that is viewed in Microsoft Excel (knowledge in the use of Excel is not required to use the screener).

As a pre-defined screener, we run all the screens on a daily basis and simply provide you with the output.  All you have to do is decide which screen you would like to view and click the sort button to see the results for that screen.

The following is an example of a portion of the Turning Point Screener results for 10/11/2004.

The Turning Point screener can be used in several different ways.  The results of a particular screen can be seen by clicking the sort button directly above the screen title.  If the screen contains numerical output, its results are typically listed by interest, with the theoretically more interesting results first.  For instance, the example shown above has been sorted by Narrow Bands, bringing all the stocks that passed this screen to the top.  In addition, these stocks are listed in order, with those that display the narrowest bands first (smallest percentage) and the widest bands last (largest percentage).

Several of the screens do not contain numerical output, but may instead have one or more categories of text-based output.  This output is simply sorted alphabetically.  The desirability of the output will likely depend upon, among other factors, the type of trade desired.  For instance, a trader looking for a long trade may investigate the support-type results from EMA S/R, or the lower-band results from Band S/R, while a trader looking for a short trade may investigate the resistance-type results from the EMA S/R, or the upper-band results from the Band S/R.

A unique feature of the Turning Point Screener is that the screener results are, in effect, cross-referenced.  For instance, in the example shown above, which has been sorted by Narrow Bands, CELL is the stock displaying the third highest ranking for the Narrow Band screener (28.5%).  Simply looking to the right and left in the CELL row reveals other screens that CELL qualified.  As can be seen, CELL also displayed a NR-7 today.  Thus, you can view the results by screen (columns), or by stock (rows).
